Engtek Manoeuvra Systems is part of the Engtek Group of companies with Engtek Pte Ltd main business being the supply of marine equipment and services to the marine and offshore sector.

The company was founded in 1974 by its Executive Chairman, Mr. Hon Chee Wah, in Singapore.

Engtek Electric Podded Thrusters

The Engtek E-Pod system provides improved efficiency and excellent maneuverability, in addition to the flexibility in machine and vessel arrangement offered by electric propulsion drives.

The Azimuthing E-Pod is 360 degrees Rotatable for maneuvering purposes, in transit, by the means of a hydraulically or electric operating steering system. The main component in the underwater unit is the electric motor; in this case a induction type ac synchronous motor with brushless excitation and the stator assembly shrink fit in the pod housing.

Components of the Basic Azimuthing Electric Podded Drives consist of:

 • Azimuthing Electric Podded Drive with the electric motor designed as an integral part of the thruster hub (Engtek-M).

• Variable Speed (VFD) Low Harmonic Motor Controllers (Engtek-M) – Air or Water Cooled

• Diesel/Generator Sets (Customer Furnished)

• Bridge Controls (Engtek-M).

 Advantages:

• Propeller speed is independent of engine speed leading to better manoeuvrability.

• Built-in features and protection result in a compact design. Vibration and temperature sensors are built into the Thruster unit. Utilizing our Thruster Monitoring System (TMP) provides full operating history plus detects any potential problems before they happen.

• Use of rugged components and optimized operation leads to reduced wear and, thus, extended maintenance intervals. Equipment is rugged and virtually maintenance free with life expectancies of 20,000 – 40,000 hrs.

• The E Pod solution provides design and arrangement flexibility for naval architects and installation flexibility for shipyards, while offering space savings or increases in payload.
